First meeting of the BSPC Working Group on Civil Security, especially Trafficking in Human Beings

The 18th BSPC which was held on 30 August – 1 September 2009 in Nyborg, Denmark adopted the Resolution that called for the establishment of a Working group on Civil Security. The overall objective of the Working Group is to elaborate joint political positions and recommendations on issues of common interest in the Baltic Sea Region.

The first meeting which was held on 3 February  2010 in Copenhagen, Denmark and hosted by the Chairperson Ms Lina Barfod, was devoted to deliberations on the Working Group’s mandate, tasks, working methods, resources, timeframe, and reporting. Ms Eva Biaudet, former OSCE Special Representative and Co-ordinator for Combating Trafficking in Human beings delivered an introductory presentation to the challenges of the civil security issues. Dr Christer Pursiainen, Senior Advisor of the CBSS Secretariat introduced with conceptual issues related to civil security and presented the issues that the CBSS is working with within the civil security priority.

The meeting decided to focus its area of work on combating trafficking in human beings. Next meeting of the Working Group will be organized on 8 April in Stockholm, and the third meeting will be hosted by the Vice Chairman Mr Andre O. Dahl on 10 June in Oslo.
