Meeting with members of the European Parliament from Baltic and Nordic countries

Members of the Presidiums of the Baltic Assembly and Nordic Council convened a meeting with members of the European Parliament elected from Baltic and Nordic countries.

During the meeting parliamentarians discussed the EU Eastern Partnership and support to the Eastern Partnership countries, promoting independent high-quality Russian-language media in the Baltic States as well as further networking between regional parliamentary organisations and European Parliament.

“Since our last meeting, we have been confronted with new existential, external, and internal threats. We see the massive flow of refugees into Europe, which is something new for our generation. There is still no peace in Ukraine. Europe has imposed sanctions against Russia that should remain in place until the Minsk Agreement is implemented in full and the territorial integrity of Ukraine is restored. War in Syria also has serious impact on Europe. I believe that Europe and Europeans are at crossroads,” said President of the Baltic Assembly Jānis Vucāns.

From the European Parliament the following Baltic and Nordic members attended the meeting – Kaja Kallas (Estonia) Iveta Grigule (Latvia), Jeppe Kofod (Denmark), Christel Schaldemose (Denmark), Jens Nilsson (Sweden), Olle Ludvigsson (Sweden), Jørn Dohrmann (Danmark), Margrete Auken (Danmark), Hannu Takkula, (Finland), Pikko Ruohonen-Lerner (Finland), Anneli Jäätteenmäki (Finland), Henna Virkkunen (Finland).
