Meeting of the Economics, Energy and Innovation Committee of the Baltic Assembly

On 11 April 2014 in Klaipėda (Lithuania) meeting of the Economics, Energy and Innovation Committee of the Baltic Assembly will was held.

During the meeting three main priority issues were discussed:

  • firstly, electricity interconnections for integrated Nordic–Baltic market (developments in electricity grid interconnections; progress achieved in implementing Estlink2, NordBalt and LitPolLink projects; interconnection options for the integration of the Baltic States to the EU internal electricity market, scenarios and costs);
  • secondly, development of the Visaginas nuclear power plant;
  • thirdly, gas sector and regional infrastructure projects and market liberalisation.

Director of the Lithuanian Energy Institute Prof. Eugenijus Ušparas delivered an expert view on challenges and opportunities of the common long-term Baltic energy strategy. Participants of the meeting visited the future quay of the LNGT.
