    The Baltic Asembly - parliamentary forum of the Republic of Estonia, the Republic of Latvia and the Republic of Lithuania

    On 8 November 1991, in Tallinn, delegations of the supreme councils of the Republic of Estonia, the Republic of Latvia and the Republic of Lithuania adopted the decision On the Formation of the of the Republic of Estonia, the Republic of Latvia and the Republic of Lithuania Interparliamentary Assembly (the Baltic Assembly). The Baltic Assembly is an international organisation that has been established in order to coordinate parliamentary cooperation among the Baltic States, to discuss matters and projects of common interest, to address joint problems and to express a joint position regarding international, economic, political and cultural issues.

      The Presidium of the Baltic Assembly directs the preparation of sessions, coordinates the work of the BA bodies during sessions and between them, supervises the implementation of the budget of the Baltic Assembly, represents the Baltic Assembly and maintains relations with international organisations as well as with the parliaments and governments of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, and fulfils other tasks prescribed for the Presidium under the Statutes and the documents adopted on the basis thereof.

  • Sessions of the Baltic Assembly

    The Session of the Baltic Assembly is the supreme body of the Baltic Assembly. There are two kinds of the sessions: regular and extraordinary. The Session can adopt decisions on all issues pertaining to the BA activities. A regular Session of the Baltic Assembly shall be held once a year in the presiding country. The term of presidency of the Baltic Assembly shall be one calendar year and the presidency shall be held alternately by Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The Session of the Baltic Assembly shall adopt its decisions by voting. Each national delegation shall have one vote. A decision shall be deemed adopted if all the national delegations have voted in favour of it.     The Baltic Assembly has convened 31 regular sessions and 2 extraordinary sessions. The 32nd Session of the Baltic Assembly will be held on 28-29 November 2013 in Riga, Latvia under the Latvian presidency of the Baltic Assembly.

  • The Medal of the Baltic Assembly

    The medal of the Baltic Assembly is an award of the Baltic Assembly for upholding the unity and cooperation of the Baltic States. The medals are awarded to the members of the Baltic Assembly as well as to other persons for their outstanding contribution to strengthening the unity and cooperation of the Baltic States.

    Since 2002 a total amount of 266 Baltic Assembly medals have been awarded. The last medal awarding took place together with the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Baltic Assembly, where three special days were dedicated to express gratitude to the representatives from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania for their fevour, courage and conviction in their fight for the independence and self-determination of the Baltic countries and also for shaping the Baltic regional cooperation. The ceremonies took place on 8 November 2011 in Tallinn, on 10 November 2011 in Riga and on 15 November 2011 in Vilnius. During the 30th Session of the Baltic Assembly on 25 November 2011 in Tallinn, the BA medals were also given to the representatives from the GUAM PA.
