The 28th Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference

On 25 – 27 August 2019 in Oslo, the 28th Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference (BSPC) was held. Participants of the conference discussed cooperation in the Baltic Sea Region, the future of the working life, achieving the 2030 UN Sustainable Development Goals, migration and integration, Northern Dimension Partnership on Traffic and Logistics, cooperation on environmental protection and other issues. Delegation of the Baltic Assembly was represented by Jānis Vucāns, Valerijus Simulik, Atis Lejiņš, Didzis Šmits, Jānis Butāns and Edgars Kucins.

Lithuania took over the presidency of the BSPC. President of the BSPC Valerijus Simulik introduced to the Lithuanian presidency programme and underlined that a particular emphasis will be put on innovation through science and technology and their interaction to achieve better added value in economic development. He emphasised there is a need for innovative impulses not only to increase prosperity in the Region, but also the health of the oceans. It is worth all the effort to deepen cooperation and integration for a secure and prosperous Baltic Sea region.
