Estonia taking over the Presidency in the Baltic Assembly

In 2020, Estonia is taking over the Presidency in the Baltic Assembly and the Baltic Council of Ministers.

The Estonian Presidency will focus on strengthening of cohesion, competitiveness and interconnectivity of the Baltic Region. Motto of the Presidency "Partnership. Trust. Future." confirms this strategic orientation of the Estonian Presidency.

The priorities of the Baltic Assembly in 2020:

  • Baltic partnership in defence and security;
  • Development of energy and transport connections;
  • Regional networks in research and education.

During 2020, President of the Baltic Assembly is Aadu Must. The Economics, Energy and Innovation Committee is going to be chaired by Sven Sester, the Education, Science and Culture Committee by Signe Kivi, the Health, Welfare and Family Committee by Urmas Espenberg, the Natural Resources and Environment Committee by Erki Savisaar and the Security and Defence Committee by Urve Tiidus.

"The Baltic States are strong when they work and act together. They are partners, who support each other in analysing the problems and finding solutions. Obstacles, hindering our harmonious development, can successfully be removed only if the Baltic States coordinate undertakings pragmatically and implement effective and widely supported decisions at the parliamentary and governmental level," said President of the Baltic Assembly while presenting the priorities of the Estonian Presidency during the 38th Session of the Baltic Assembly.
