Thematic Session of the Benelux Parliament “Patients without borders: eliminating barriers in the Benelux”

On 23 – 24 March 2017 in the Hague, delegation of the Baltic Assembly participated in the plenary thematic debate of the Benelux Parliament entitled “Patients without borders: eliminating barriers in the Benelux.”

The plenary thematic debate focused on diverse aspects of cross-border patient care in the Benelux countries and the whole Europe. During the thematic debate, free movement of persons and employed people, removal of cross-border obstacles, implementation of the European Regulation on the coordination of the social security systems (29 April 2004) and the European Directive dealing with the application of the rights of the patients in cross-border health care (9 March 2011) were discussed jointly by parliamentarians, governmental representatives and researchers from Benelux, Baltic and Nordic countries.

Deputy Chair of the Social Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu and member of the Welfare Committee of the Baltic Assembly Monika  Haukanõmm introduced to the work of the Baltic Assembly and Baltic Council of Ministers in eliminating barriers in healthcare sector in the Baltic States.

Delegation of the Baltic Assembly was represented by Aadu Must (Estonia), Valerijus Simulik (Lithuania), Jānis Vucāns (Latvia), Romualds Ražuks (Latvia), Monika Haukanõmm (Estonia) and Gintaras Vaičekauskas (Lithuania).
