Participation in the Theme Session of the Nordic Council

On 4 April 2017 in Stockholm, Theme Session of the Nordic Council was held during which members of the Nordic Council jointly with Nordic Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Nordic Ministers of Co-operation hold a thematic debate under heading “The Nordic Region and the USA – a new situation”. It was the first time when members of the Nordic Council with Nordic Ministers of Co-operation discussed foreign affairs since the US presidential election. Theme Session was continued with debates about new member’s proposals regarding Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream 2, an immigration policy group, research policy, implementation of international climate objectives, fight against human trafficking, joint Nordic aviation policy, sharing economy in the Nordic region, digitalisation in higher education and research. After the Theme Session of the Nordic Council, members of the Baltic Assembly participated in the informal debates about the development concerning security policy in neighbourhood.

Delegation of the Baltic Assembly was represented by Vice President of the Baltic Assembly Jānis Vucāns (Latvia), Member of the Presidium of the Baltic Assembly Johannes Kert (Estonia) and Vice Chairman of the Legal Affairs and Security Committee of the Baltic Assembly Andrius Kubilius (Lithuania).
