On 12 December 2025, the Conference of the Baltic Assembly “Health as an Investment in Baltic Security and Future” will be held in Riga, Latvia. During the meeting, parliamentarians from the Baltic States and experts in the health field will discuss the social and economic value of health, and the path to socially responsible health policy.
Social and economic value of health
The first panel of the Conference will delve into the social and economic value of health. Discussions will touch on how the burden of disease impacts economic growth, and employment across the Baltic States, how to calculate the public value of healthcare, and how to integrate this value into policy decisions. The discussion will also feature health as a security factor from an international perspective, namely, the NATO and EU approach to health security.
Path to socially responsible health policy
However, the second panel of the Conference will aim to answer questions regarding using data as a policy instrument, strengthening Baltic cooperation and data governance, integrating public value approaches into budget and pricing decisions, and the introduction of innovative approaches in policy. The discussion will also feature a debate on demographics, maternal and youth health as a strategic investment in national security.
