Baltic Assembly stresses continuing strategic partnership with the United States

On 28 November 2025, parliamentarians of the Baltic Assembly attended the Session of the Benelux Parliament in Luxembourg, which was dedicated to the new EU-US customs duties and tariffs agreement, as well as tax fraud and money laundering in the Benelux region.

President of the Baltic Assembly Jānis Vucāns addressed colleagues from the Benelux Parliament by stating that for the Baltic States, relations with the United States carry deep historical meaning. Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania have remained grateful for the unwavering support of the United States during the most difficult moments in their history.

He continued by highlighting that as Europe faces renewed geopolitical pressure and enduring threats from Russia, the United States continues to serve as a key ally. Recent years have seen great US support, including the Baltic Security Initiative, which in 2024 provided approximately 228 million dollars in cooperation funding focused on air defence, maritime awareness, and land capabilities. The United States has also maintained a consistent rotational military presence in the Baltic region through the Atlantic Resolve training operation and has approved major defence sales that boost our ability to deter aggression. Ranging from HIMARS systems to air defence missiles, Javelins, and Black Hawk helicopters.

He called on colleagues from the Benelux Parliament to continue cooperation with the United States, which has proven resilient because it is built on shared values and long-term strategic interests, and concluded by stating that “let us show that Europe, united with its closest ally, can meet any challenge with confidence!”

At the meeting, the delegation of the Baltic Assembly consisted of the President of the Baltic Assembly Jānis Vucāns and Vice President Giedrius Drukteinis.
