Baltic Assembly highlights the importance of parliamentary diplomacy at the 12th SEECP Parliamentary Assembly Plenary Session


On 9-10 June 2025, the Baltic Assembly attended the 12th Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the South-East European Cooperation Process, which took place in Tirana, Albania.

The President of the SEECP PA, Elisa Spiropali, opened the session by stating that Albania is concluding its 2025 Chairmanship. She highlighted discussions on stability, competitiveness, migration mobility, empowerment of the young people and European integration, all under the motto of shaping a shared European future. She noted the progress of Albania towards EU accession, aiming to conclude negotiations by 2027 and join by 2030.

A central feature of the plenary session was the thematic exchange of ideas on “Parliamentary Cooperation for the Enhancement of Regional Connectivity in South-East Europe,” where Vice President of the Baltic Assembly Giedrius Drukteinis introduced the key priorities of the Baltic Assembly for 2025 and highlighted the importance of parliamentary diplomacy by stating that "parliamentary diplomacy is an essential tool that helps foster strong and effective partnerships. It allows us to build bridges, share best practices and work towards common goals. By utilising it correctly, it can guide us to achieve greater levels of cooperation. This effort must also be tied to helping Ukraine achieve victory. A free, democratic and thriving Ukraine is in the interest of every nation represented here today.”

The 12th Session concluded with the President of the SEECP PA, Elisa Spiropali, transferring the presidency over to Bulgaria and the next president, Nataliya Kiselova.
