Estonia taking over the Presidency of the Baltic Assembly in 2026

Estonia will take over the Presidency of the Baltic Assembly and the Baltic Council of Ministers in 2026. The Estonian Presidency will emphasise strengthening the common voice of the Baltic States and reinforcing the unity and resilience in the region. By deepening defence cooperation, accelerating key projects and initiatives such as Rail Baltica and the Baltic energy strategy, and promoting scientific, cultural, and educational excellence, the Baltic Assembly will ensure that the region remains safe, interconnected, and strategically focused on the future.

President Timo Suslov highlighted that this year the Baltic Assembly will also continue to strongly support Ukraine. “Our unity with Ukraine is unshakeable. Through our parliamentary work, we will ensure that Ukraine’s voice remains heard and that its path to integration is fully supported. Our solidarity with Ukraine is not symbolic; it is a moral commitment to freedom and justice,” emphasised Timo Suslov.

At the same time, the Estonian Presidency will work towards advancing sustainability, health, and environmental resilience, while reinforcing parliamentary oversight of ongoing commitments. Through unity and partnership, the Baltic States will be better prepared to meet current challenges, seize future opportunities, strengthen regional resilience, and advance shared prosperity. Therefore, the motto of the Estonian Presidency is “Unity through connectivity, progress through partnership”, which embodies three main priorities of the Baltic Assembly in 2026.

The priorities of the Baltic Assembly in 2026

  1. A secure and resilient region through coordinated strategies;
  2. Strong physical, digital, and energy connectivity;
  3. Innovation-driven regional competitiveness.

In light of the evolving global landscape, it has become increasingly evident that coordinated Baltic engagement is a cornerstone of effective parliamentary diplomacy. Where state-level diplomacy may face limits, parliamentary cooperation creates additional pathways, offering agility and openness.
